Fireplace

January 28, 2008

Last week the fireplace was finished. The guy wanted something to do since he can’t work on the stone outside, so he worked a couple days inside. It looks really good! We went out on Saturday to see how things were coming along. The guy doing the showers was supposed to be there Friday and Saturday and should have been almost done by the time we got there. But he didn’t even get started, and I doubt he is even there today. So the fireplace is about all that has changed on the house in two weeks.

Today, Wade, Troy and Zach are putting down the wood floor. So we will see what it looks like later this week when we go visit. I’m getting really excited because we are getting down to the last big things. After the floor is down, we can get the cabinets installed and our carpet as well (as long as the showers get done this week). We are still looking at early March to be completed, but that’s not too far away!

A long day

January 24, 2008

Today we spent most of the day looking for stuff for the house. First we went to the Slab Yard to look at granite for our countertops. I found a good deal on some stuff I liked for only $10.50/sf. I will still have to pay to get it finished and installed, but that’s a great deal. Plus the guy who will be installing it says he usually can get it a little cheaper than what they quote the public. Then we went to a fabric store and spent about two-and-a-half hours looking around for drapery fabric. This place was a huge store, and every corner you went around, there was another room full of bolts. Jonathan had fun climbing around on everything (the place was a mess so I wasn’t too concerned about him damaging anything, and he took his shoes off as soon as he could so nothing got dirty). But by the end of it he was ready to go home. Needless to say this picture reflects how he felt.

Project 365

January 19, 2008

I wanted to keep up on my photography skills so this year I decided that I was going to take pictures everyday and create a book. The easiest way will be to post it on a regular basis, rather than have a huge project compiling it at the end of the year.

The reason I wanted to do this is because I am also going to do a book about our first year in our new house. Justin Hackworth suggested that I try to do something similar before we moved in so that I would be in the habit of taking a picture everyday. Thanks Justin!

Old Toys

January 13, 2008

Today I was at home with Sean all day because he has a cold. I have been trying to take pictures everyday just to get practice. I wasn’t thinking about this all day until I checked my email and remembered that I hadn’t taken any yet. I ended up taking some last minute ones of some old toys. Here are a couple of them.

I really like this mouse!

Winter

January 9, 2008

It seems like a while since I last posted anything. Probably because it is winter and I don’t feel like going outside much, and so I have been reading a lot! The kids are getting anxious to get outside, especially Jonathan! But we do some fun things inside. Jonathan likes playing with his legos, and here he is making “invitations” or whatever you want to think of them as. He just cuts up paper and writes letters on them and says he is going to take them to Brelynn or William and Clarissa.

Here is Sean playing with whatever he can reach. It happened to be books, and the cables.

Sean is fascinated with Grandpa Garner’s light (that turns off when you walk into a dark room).

Now on to the house. I have taken other pictures but this is the most recent (from yesterday). They are working on the siding outside. They have completed all the horizontal siding, and are working on the gables now.

Inside they are done painting. Neal Jewett is working on the shower surrounds. We are doing Travertine for the showers and on the floors in the bathrooms. He is a great craftsman!

After that we will get to the floors in the main part of the house. Unfortunately it will be February before it gets here :( So a bit of a delay that we didn’t want but that’s life.
