Moving day…March 22nd

March 27, 2008

It was a crazy morning! Shane had the truck by 8:00 am and it was all loaded by 10:30. Aaron and Trey came, and so did KC. Our neighbors the Halvorsens came over and helped as well… It went pretty quick thanks to all their help! We had a few odds and ends, and we forgot everything in the fridge! But Shane got some food on the way back from returning the truck.

Sean escaped but I caught him with the camera!

We got to the house around 11:00 and Shane started to unload the truck. At about 2:00 Wade showed up with Roland and Aubrey. He helped us get the big stuff in the house, and we finished unloading all the boxes. This is how we looked and felt at the end of the day!

Packing

March 20, 2008

I’ve been so busy today that time just flew by. I went and cleaned our new house (just about done with that). When I got home I started packing a few boxes and decided I should get a picture in. (Thanks Justin for letting me use the strobe!)

Shane took down the shelves in the garage and got everything out of the crawl space. This is just the beginning…tomorrow we will pack up everything but the kitchen sink!

Sean at the new house

March 15, 2008

We were at the house cleaning and doing some other random things. Before leaving I got these pictures of Sean. Here he is in our shower. It’s a good thing he didn’t try to jump off!

And here he is playing peek-a-boo!

The day before…

March 11, 2008

So the day before the final inspection everything looks great! We should pass with no problems. This is good since we need all of the moons and stars to align in order to get the funding from the bank to pay the construction loan by their deadline. Andrew came down on Monday to work on the final grading around the house. He had someone else come down and finish up today. The yard looks a WHOLE LOT better now that everything is pretty level, and all the junk is mostly cleaned up (at least in one pile!). This is the back yard, which was the worst of it.

We got the shower doors on (which was another thing that needed to be done for the inspection). They also installed the mirrors, and the glass in our cabinets.

And we finally got our fridge… and hopefully dryer by now! I got a call from RC Willey at 6:30 this morning saying they couldn’t deliver the dryer because they didn’t have a new ticket written up for it. Well that’s not my problem, it’s theirs! So I called up customer service and they got it on another truck and were supposed to deliver it between 7 and 9 pm! Luckily Mom said they would go up there whenever they called so that they could let them in.

While I was waiting around I cleaned a few cupboards while the kids played around. Then we went outside and I started cleaning up some garbage, and picking up rocks. We will be picking up a lot of rocks this summer! I think we will work something out with Jonathan so that for every bucket he fills up we will give him a quarter or whatever… you’ve gotta love child labor! ;) They will have to be small buckets so he can carry them!

Today we spent the day at the house cleaning up the yard and washing windows. It was a pretty boring day. But at least Neal showed up to work. He actually has one room finished…the kitchen! Still not quite done with the master shower. He just has some shelves to put up and put a sealer coat on the travertine in the two bathrooms. Here he is putting in the seat in our shower.

Shane worked on our temporary sidewalk and steps. They are crooked, but who cares! We will be taking them out in a few months to pour permanent steps. Besides it gives it character, and if I wanted it fixed I would have to do it ;)

And on the way home Jonathan fell asleep in the car. Sean got bored and was just staring into space.

Final inspection 1

March 6, 2008

Today we had our first final inspection. This is the one where they come and tell you everything that still needs to be done to pass inspection. We had 10 things… 3 of them were for Neal who is not done with the showers and countertops. So…. he should be done tomorrow. He got the floor of the shower done in like 1 hour, so I have no idea why it took him 2 months to do two whole showers.

Also, you may notice that they put the wrong fixtures in the bathrooms, so the plumber needs to come back on Monday to replace them with the oil rubbed bronze ones.

Here is a picture of Sean… I realized I don’t have many pictures of him in the house because he is usually taking a nap at my mom’s house, and it has been so filthy that he would be caked in dirt if I let him down. So now that he is walking and I cleaned up today I let him down to explore a bit.

I think he likes the house!

I think Sean will be spending a lot of time playing in the dirt this summer! Every time we go outside he just starts kicking his legs and flailing his arms because he is so excited. He needs a bath after throwing dirt all over himself…

Here is Neal actually working. The thing is, his work is really good, and he doesn’t charge very much for it. But this has been the most frustrating thing about building the house.

Anyway, that’s it for today. We have the last final inspection on Wednesday. Then it’s off to the bank! Maybe we will be moving around the 21st!!!!

The house…again

March 1, 2008

So we went to the house today. It’s still going slow. We did get some more gravel for the driveway. If you are in the area, just drive up and down a couple times to help compact it for us!

The stone completely on, now he just has to grout it. This is pretty much what the outside will look like for a few months now, until we get time and good weather to do some landscaping.

20080301-img_3182.jpg

We can’t poor any steps in front until then either because the ground is so frozen that if we did, it would just sink and crack. So my dad made some temporary steps so we can pass inspection. Jonathan was VERY excited about these steps!

20080301-img_3172.jpg

The countertops are all in place, and he only has one more sink to cut out… and no, he is not done with our shower… Here is a picture of our pretty sink though!

20080301-img_3166.jpg

A funny story about the sinks. On Thursday a lady that my mom visits came home to find a pile of plumbing items on her driveway. She had no idea why they would be there. Then she started thinking and remembered that my mom mentioned that we were building a house. She happens to live at about the same address only on the west side of Center street, we live on the east. So she called my mom and told her about all this stuff on her driveway. Apparently the supply company delivered it there, but after Wade called them, they said they wouldn’t come and move it. At least we all got a good chuckle out of it.

That’s about it. In a week or so I will be looking for volunteers to come help clean! Just let me know ;)

It’s getting closer…

February 23, 2008

The move that is! We went out to the house today to do a few things, and just see how things were coming along (and no the shower is still NOT done!). We do have granite for our counter-tops though. He has even installed three slabs, and has a fourth one almost ready (just needs to sand the corners down).

Here is a picture of our desktop in the kitchen.

Shane hung up the curtain rods so that I would have some measurements to start with. I also got the fabric for our living room windows cut so I can start making those when I go visit my mom. We also bought some numbers to put on the house. Jonathan laid them out very neatly!

Lynn Burgess is putting the stone up outside and he is almost done. He has the front porch and pillars left to do. He has spent the last couple weeks (on warm days) wallowing through the mud do get it done for us. He just lives up the street so he will be one of our neighbors!

And here is a look at the front of the house… mud and all!

We just need about five more dump truck loads of rock and then we should be ready to move in without getting the truck stuck!

Finishing touches

February 12, 2008

Today we had a few things going on at the house. The cabinet makers hung all the doors and put knobs on. They look awesome! I think the main reason I built a house is because of the cabinets! So here is a bunch of pictures of the cabinets. Thanks to Warren D. Thomas who made the cabinets.

This is our island. It is a darker finish. The main cabinets are “Canyon” and the island is “Dusk”.

Here is Jonathan’s bathroom. He is very excited about his large door!

Here is our computer desk and shelves. The large bottom half will have our safe and computer.

This is Jonathan helping Warren. He was a big help!

We also got our carpet installed. (This is the only picture I took of the guy because I had to get back to mom’s house so she didn’t have to teach piano with Sean on her lap)

And we have some of the stone up on the outside. It looks good now, but when it has the sealant on it will look even better.

And for those of you wondering… we still do not have anything new happening on the bathrooms :( Not too happy with that development (or lack thereof) because now he will be walking all over my new carpet. ARRRRRRRGH!

2 more pictures of the house

February 10, 2008

Here are two more pictures of the house.  This first one is of the kids shower.  It looks pretty nice… I just wish he would finish!

The next one is our garage doors… boring!  But you can also see the rock work which looks really nice.
