Mentoring contest

February 23, 2010

As most of you know, I’m a busy mom of 3 kids.  My husband is working full time (thankfully!) and finishing his bachelor’s degree.  When he is home he’s doing homework, so we don’t “see” much of him!  I’ve been doing photography for a few years now with a little help from friends here and there.  And I LOVE it!  Everytime I get behind the camera I get excited about what I’m creating.  I love to download the pictures to the computer and see something new just jump out at me.  Mostly I’ve tried to learn and do things on my own.  As you can tell it’s been a slow process, as I haven’t had much time of my own.  My learning time is a few minutes here, and there.  Maybe an hour or two after the kids are in bed.  You may have noticed that I do shoot and post everyday.  This has been probably the only consistent thing I’ve done, and it has helped me a lot.

So why am I writing about this?  Well Brooke Snow is giving away a weekend mentoring session.  What an awesome opportunity!  This is just what I need!  Something to help motivate me, build confidence, and answer questions that I have.  It will help me with my photography to watch someone who has done this a lot more than I have!  I know that I would come away from this a better person and photographer.  So “For the love of photography” go on over to her blog and vote for me to win this mentoring session.  And help me out even more by sharing this with your friends and asking them to vote.

Thanks!

Oh and what is a post without a picture?!  This is an out-take from yesterday.

Fundraiser event

August 14, 2009

Thank youMy nephew’s wife (which makes her my neice-in-law!) Laurie, is doing a fundraiser for her father who has cancer.  She asked around for volunteers, and I said I would do some sewing for her.  Then I thought I could also donate some of my other talents in photography.  So I offered to donate two portrait sessions to be raffled at the fundraiser.

Walking around Costco… sampling the goodies for dinner… where is the beef bullion?… Oh we need some nesquik… Is that Kiera Haddock?… I recognize that guy, it’s her husband… and her two cute kids…

I’m a blog lurker, it’s true!  I love reading other photographer’s blogs.  It gives me inspiration and insight into their lives as photographers.  I learn so much, not just technically, but why they take the photographs that they did.  I lurk on Kiera’s site!

Should I go up to her?… she has no idea who I am… where are the band-aids… maybe they are over there where Kiera is… should I say hi?… well she won’t ever know… walk on by…

My total is how much?!!!… never shopping again!… there goes the shoes I wanted… must get a slice of combo pizza… and there is Kiera with her family at the food court… ok, I’ll do it!

“You’re Kiera, right?”…..  I did it!  I told her I recognized her from her blog.  We had a nice little chat, and I promised that I would make myself known on her blog!

It’s fun making new friends!

I know I have been m.i.a. for most of February. But here’s what I’ve been up to! We have the boys room downstairs ready to paint. We have most of it primed, and got the paint on Saturday. Here are the two silliest boys on the planet!  This was about two weeks ago.  The only difference now is that it is white!  Jonathan even helped out with priming; he had a LOT of fun!  Since then the boys have both been sick with colds and ear infections.

In my “spare” time I have been frantically working on the baby quilt.  I timed myself one day to see how long it took to stitch two rows together, and then stitch them to the quilt… 8 HOURS!!!  I have 35 total rows.  I wanted to have the quilt top finished by the end of February.  I didn’t make it.  I have 28 rows together, and the next two ready to put on.  I think I’ll finish this week.

Needless to say, I haven’t really had much “spare” time to go out and take pictures.  But I finally did this last week and this is what I got.

Spring is in the air

Please no more snow!

And finally the moon and Venus snuggled up together.

Have a great week!

Okay, I missed last week, but I really didn’t have much to show.  So this week there’s a whopper of a selection! :)

The last, but most important thing that happened, my sister had her baby yesterday!  Here is a picture of his toes.  You can see more of him here.Baby feet

Earlier in the week we went for a walk.  It was such a gorgeous day that I couldn’t resist.  This is Sean’s shadow.

Here are some icicles on my Grandpa’s shed.

There are a few more from our walk on flickr.

On Saturday Kristy and I went out by the lake to take pictures.  I didn’t get very much of the lake, it was pretty foggy.  But here are a couple that I did take.
